The Myanmar government freed Reuters reporters who had been arrested for leaking the secrets of the state
Yangon: The Myanmar government released reporters from Reuters news agency Wa Lon and Qiao O from Myanmar prison. Two Reuters reporters, Vaughn Lone and Kyiv Oh, were arrested for investigating the killing of 10 Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar. Last year they were sentenced to seven years in Yangon district court in Myanmar, claiming they stolen the government's secret documents. The UN agency condemned the arrest of journalists.
The Reuters reporters have been imprisoned for more than 500 days, and the Myanmar government freed them both on good terms. The press has issued a statement that the President has signed the amnesty and issued a release. Myanmar's traditional New Year celebration begins on April 17th. During the celebration of this New Year celebration, public apology for prisoners is routinely observed in the country.
